🕰️ The Time Machine – Chapter VI: Below the Earth (Adapted for B2+ Readers)

“I knew now,” the Time Traveller continued, “that something terrible was hiding underground.”

“The small people on the surface were called the Eloi, but the pale creature I saw that night was something different. I later learned their name: the Morlocks.”

“One night, I decided to explore one of the deep wells I had seen. These wells led down into darkness. I tied a rope around myself and climbed down one of them.”

“The descent was terrifying. It was dark, cold, and smelled of metal and old air. Finally, I reached the bottom. I stood in a long tunnel lit by faint, bluish lights.”

“I heard strange noises—clicking, breathing, whispers. Then I saw them. Dozens of Morlocks. Pale, thin, with large eyes that glowed in the dark. They lived down here, in the deep earth.”

“They watched me, surprised. I realized they didn’t expect anyone from the surface to come down here. I was in their world now.”

“I walked through the tunnels and saw machines—strange, old machines still working. I didn’t understand their purpose, but the Morlocks clearly knew how to use them.”

“Suddenly, the Morlocks came closer. I was not welcome. I felt danger in the air. I turned and escaped up the well, climbing fast, my heart racing.”

“Back on the surface, the sun felt warm again, but my mind was troubled. The Eloi were gentle, but helpless. The Morlocks were strong, but frightening.”

“It was like a world divided—light and dark, above and below.”

“And I realized something else: the Morlocks had taken my Time Machine underground.”

🧠 Improve Your English Using AI

Do you want to improve your English but don’t always have a teacher to help you? Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) makes it easier than ever to learn on your own. AI is used in many language learning apps and websites to help with speaking, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and more. In this article, you will learn how to use AI in smart and effective ways.

💬 How to Ask Questions and Have Conversations

Many AI systems work like chatbots. You can write to them like you would message a friend. To ask a question, just type it clearly:

  • “What is the difference between ‘much’ and ‘many’?”

  • “Can you explain how to use the present perfect tense?”

  • “Is this sentence correct: ‘She don’t like apples’?”

The AI will answer your question, often with examples. You can also ask follow-up questions to get a better understanding. The more you talk, the more confident and fluent you will become.

Some systems even allow voice input, so you can speak your question out loud and listen to the answer. This is great practice for pronunciation and listening.

✍️ Getting Corrections and Feedback

If you write something in English, AI tools can check your grammar and spelling. Here’s how to use them:

  1. Write a sentence, paragraph, or even a full story.

  2. Paste it into the AI tool and ask: “Can you correct my writing?” or “Can you check my grammar and spelling?”

  3. The tool will highlight your mistakes and suggest better words or sentence structures.

Some tools not only correct your writing but explain why something is wrong, which helps you learn. For example:

❌ She don’t like pizza.
✅ She doesn’t like pizza.
Explanation: ‘Don’t’ is used with ‘I/you/we/they’. Use ‘doesn’t’ with ‘he/she/it’.

You can also ask for help to make your writing more formal or more natural, like this:

  • “Can you make this sound more polite?”

  • “Can you rewrite this in a more academic style?”

📈 Checking Your Progress

It’s important to know if you’re improving. Some AI learning platforms show your progress with:

  • Scores from quizzes

  • Daily learning streaks

  • Vocabulary review history

  • Levels completed (A1, A2, B1, etc.)

Apps like Duolingo, LingQ, and Babbel track what you’ve learned and remind you to review old material. You can also check your progress by:

  • Keeping a learning diary

  • Saving your corrected writing

  • Recording your voice once a week and listening to how it improves

AI writing tools like Grammarly and QuillBot can give you weekly reports to show how your grammar, vocabulary, and clarity are changing over time.

🔁 How to Revise and Remember

Revising is important so you don’t forget what you’ve learned. Many AI apps use spaced repetition – a smart way of showing you words just before you forget them.

Some useful revision tools include:

  • Anki – lets you create flashcards that AI shows at the right time for better memory.

  • Quizlet – has thousands of flashcard sets you can study or create on your own.

  • Memrise – uses short videos of native speakers and tests your memory regularly.

To revise grammar, you can ask AI:

  • “Give me a quiz on past simple vs past perfect.”

  • “Can you make 5 questions using conditionals?”

Then, you can answer the questions and ask the AI to check your answers.

💡 AI Tools You Can Try

Here are some popular AI-powered tools for learning English:

ToolWhat it offers
ChatGPTAsk grammar questions, get writing corrections, practise conversations
GrammarlyChecks spelling, grammar, and writing style
DuolingoVocabulary, grammar, reading, and speaking in short lessons
Elsa SpeakHelps you improve pronunciation with voice feedback
QuillBotRewrites your text and helps with vocabulary
YouGlishShows how words are used in real speech using video examples

✅ Final Tips

  • Be clear: When talking to AI, use clear and simple language.

  • Use it daily: Even 10–15 minutes a day can make a big difference.

  • Mix tools: Use more than one app to practise different skills.

  • Stay curious: Keep asking questions and trying new things.

AI can’t replace real conversations or human teachers, but it’s a fantastic helper when learning English on your own.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Computer systems that can do tasks like humans, such as learning and problem-solving.

🕰️ The Time Machine – Chapter V: A Strange New World (Adapted for B2 Readers)

As the Time Traveller continued his story, we leaned in, listening closely.

“At first,” he said, “I thought I had found a paradise. The people were kind, the air was sweet, and the land was beautiful. But slowly, I noticed strange things.”

“They didn’t seem to work. There were no farms, no shops, no tools. They just played, ate fruit, and slept. Their food was everywhere—growing wild. Their buildings were old and falling apart, and no one repaired them. They weren’t curious about the world or even about me.”

“They lived in great stone halls, sleeping together in groups. At night, they seemed afraid. They stayed close to one another and avoided the dark.”

“One evening, I walked alone into a forest nearby. I found an old statue covered in moss. Then, I heard something strange—like a creature moving underground. The sound made me uneasy.”

“When I returned to my machine, I was shocked—it was gone!”

“I searched everywhere. I asked the small people, but they didn’t understand. They were kind, but not very helpful. I realized someone had hidden the machine—and it wasn’t the people I had met.”

“There was something else… something below the surface.”

“Later, I found a large metal door built into a hill. It looked strong and cold. I couldn’t open it. And then I saw one of them… a pale creature with large eyes looking at me from the shadows.”

“I wasn’t alone in this future. The gentle people on the surface were not the only ones living there. Deep underground, something else existed—watching me.”
